Access improvements for Chorley canal
British Waterways (BW) has completed work on a scheme to improve access to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Crosse Hall Lane Bridge in Chorley, Lancashire.
It is anticipated that the new access will provide a safe facility for local residents and aims to encourage more people to take part in walking and cycling activities at the nearby Tatton Recreation Ground. Norwich-based contractor May Gurney carried out the work on behalf of BW, which cost more than £22,000 and was funded through a joint partnership between Lancashire County Council, BW and Sustrans.
BW regeneration project manager Steve Higham said: "The Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Chorley is well used by a range of users, including walkers, cyclists and runners. "The newly improved access is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the canal corridor through Chorley, and the new access forms part of wider plans for further improvements in the area."
