After one Brighton pier falls into the sea - the other catches fire
Fire broke out at the end of Brighton Pier last night and has destroyed the Ghost train ride.
The fire broke out shortly after 7pm in the funfair and fire crews have yet to establish what caused the blaze. They are also investigating whether any structural damage has been done to the pier itself.
The 1,722ft long pier, known as the Palace Pier, opened 103 years ago in 1899 and is Grade 2* listed.
Only last month, parts of Brighton's disused West Pier, including the ballroom, collapsed into the sea following high winds. Although lottery money had been earmarked for its restoration, it is now thought to be beyond repair.
