Ajax Cape Town secures stadium deal
South Africa-based Ajax Cape Town Football Club (ACT) has confirmed that it has reached an agreement to play its home games at the Cape Town Stadium for the next three years.
The stadium - located in Green Point - was built at a cost of ZAR4.4bn (£396m, EUR454m, US$650m) for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by construction group Murray and Roberts. GMP Architects, Louis Karol Architects and Point Architects designed Cape Town Stadium, which currently boasts a capacity of 55,000 - reduced from 64,100 during the World Cup.
ACT chief executive officer George Comitis said: "We have plans to make sure that this partnership works to the benefit of all Capetonians." Netherlands-based football club Ajax Amsterdam owns 51 per cent of ACT, with 49 per cent held by the Comitis and Efstathiou families.
