Alderney sports centre to open in 2013
UK firm Directline Structures has been appointed to build a new £2.2m sports centre in Alderney.
Construction work on the multi-purpose venue will begin in March 2012 and is scheduled to be completed by spring 2013.
The 21,000 sq ft (1,951 sq m) centre will feature a 25m swimming pool, a sports hall and a gym as well as a bowling alley, dance studio, changing rooms, and a café.
Chair of the Alderney Community and Sports Centre Charitable Trust, Richard Wilmott, said: "Plans had been in the pipeline for more than eight years with the community fundraising events and donations to raise the money required to make their dreams a reality."
Managing director of Directline Structure, Duncan Murray, said: "The centre will be built with eco-friendly features, such as an air source heating system which helps keep the building at a comfortable temperature."
