Cadence will be an urban sentinel and a neighbourhood landmark. It’s about architecture with character.
– Alison Brooks

Alison Brooks Architects have designed a new residential development that is conceived as an "urban oasis" for the King’s Cross area of London.

Cadence, which is due for completion in 2022, will offer 103 private residential homes ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments.

The building will feature a terracotta façade and "Bézier curve" arches that echo the architecture of the nearby King’s Cross and St. Pancras International stations.

Other materials used will include polished concrete, aged brass and dark oak, with interiors featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings and balconies.

Central to the concept, though, will be a large courtyard with a "tranquillity pool" intended to provide a sanctuary in which to relax and escape city life.

Reserved for the use of residents only, the space is designed to be an urban oasis in which the "calming curves" of the building's design will be reflected in the water.

A raised communal terrace with planting will overlook a nearby tree-lined park, providing an additional space for relaxation.

Alison Brooks, founder of Alison Brooks Architects, said: "Cadence will be an urban sentinel and a neighbourhood landmark. It’s about architecture with character.

"We’ve created a new language of brick arches and vaulted spaces that echo the exuberant architecture of King’s Cross and St. Pancras stations. It will reveal itself slowly as you move around and through it; in detail it will be experienced as a beautiful journey home."
