Allen and Done honoured in New Year list
Charles Allen and Frances Done, the chairman and chief executive of Manchester 2002 - the company responsible for organising the Manchester Commonwealth Games have been awarded CBEs in the Queen's New Year Honours List.
Both were recognised for their outstanding contribution to the games, which were acknowledged as a great success.
David Quarmby, chair of the British Tourist Authority (BTA) and former chair of the English Tourist Board (ETB) was awarded a CBE and Bob Cotton, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association (BHA) received an OBE.
Other individuals from the sporting world who were awarded honours included European Ryder Cup team captain, Sam Torrence and Olympian Steve Backley, both of whom were awarded OBEs. England fly-half, Jonny Wilkinson and triple-jumper Ashia Hansen were among the MBEs.
