Alton Towers introduces tight swimwear ban
Men visiting the waterpark at the Alton Towers Resort in Staffordshire have been told by officials that they will not be allowed to wear tight swimming trunks in the interests of public taste.
According to the Alton Towers Resort, the recent hot weather had led to an increase in the number of males at the Splash Landings Hotel waterpark wearing swimwear "more suited to an exotic beach location than Staffordshire". Alton Towers Resort, which is operated by Merlin Entertainments, also said that as well as encouraging men to wear boardshorts, it is considering the introduction of mandatory bikini waxing for male visitors in order to remove unsightly hair.
Morwenna Angove, the resort's sales and marketing director, said: "Our Waterpark team observed an increase in the number of men wearing tighter trunk style swimwear while enjoying the tropical temperatures at the Alton Towers Resort waterpark. "We feel this small brief style is not appropriate for a family venue so we are advising male bathers to wear more protective swimwear such as shorts. We are also looking into offering complimentary male waxing, which will ensure preserve the dignity of all our guests."
