Approval close for Cairns water park?
Developers behind an AUS$3bn (£1.9bn) theme park planned for Cairns in Queensland, Australia, expect to receive state approval early next year.
The Tropical Paradise Resort plans to create a Florida-style theme park, film studio, village centre and sports complex south of the city over the next 10-15 years. Local media reports say that consultants to carry out an environmental impact study are about to be appointed, with the developers aiming to kick off construction in 2012 and completing by 2027.
Project manager Allan Carlsson said they were talking to various people about funding. He added that the resort would help attract more Chinese and Indian tourists to Cairns and increase the amount of time they spend in the area.
He also said he was optimistic that both the Tropical Paradise Resort and the planned Adventure Waters park to be constructed north of the city at Smithfield could work together to attract more visitors to Australia's Far North.
