Aquarium mirror maze for Sea Life Centre
The National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham has added a themed maze to its range of attractions.
Designed by Adrian Fisher, the mirror maze is called The Lost City of Atlantis and is the first situated inside an aquarium in the UK.
Small groups of tropical fish in displays located within the maze will appear like vast shoals surrounding the visitors on all sides.
Adrian Fisher said: “Using mirrors in a maze enables us to play with people’s perceptions of space and create an attraction which appears many times larger than it actually is.”
“This is the first time first time we’ve created one in an aquarium, and we’re excited about the extra dimension the constantly moving fish will bring to it.”
The maze is themed to include three separate sections – mythical Atlantis, a coral reef and Poseidon’s Chamber.
The reward for guests who complete the maze is the opportunity to view the centre’s resident Pacific giant octopus, claimed to be the world’s most intelligent species of octobus.
Sea Life Centre’s curator, Graham burrows said: “These sea creatures are so intelligent that marine experts often devise puzzles to help keep them stimulated, so it is fitting that our visitors have to solve a puzzle in order to see it.”
