Aquaterra's new reading scheme success with Islington school
Aquaterra is delighted to announce the success of a recently launched reading partner scheme with Montem Primary School in Islington N7, where Aquaterra staff volunteer to read with Year Four children who wish to develop their reading skills.
The innovative voluntary scheme currently involves five Aquaterra staff and five children working together on a one-to-one basis in lunchtimes. Launched in September 2012 by Aquaterra's Legal Advisor Linda Coopersmith, Aquaterra aims to increase the number of volunteers so that more pupils at Montem Primary School can benefit.
Antony Kildare, Chief Executive of Aquaterra Leisure, said: "I'm extremely proud that Aquaterra is the first business organisation in Islington to have launched such a scheme and that our staff are helping bring the tremendous benefits of reading to Islington children. Aquaterra works at the heart of communities and it is a pleasure to work with Montem Primary School who are very supportive and appreciative."
Nicholas Tait, Head of Montem Primary School, said: "Having the Aquaterra volunteers makes a real difference to the children they read with. One-to-one reading enables children to practise their reading skills with a skilled and fluent reader who is trained to support them effectively. The children absolutely love reading with the volunteers, it's a highlight of their week."
