The national governing body (NGB) for archery will host events at 15 National Trust sites in England in an attempt to attract thousands more people to the sport.

Archery GB has inked a three-year deal with the National Trust to collaborate on the events, with the former hoping to boost participation rates by 26,000 people a year as a consequence of the scheme.

National Trust staff will be on hand to teach visitors how to use the archery equipment, which has been designed to be suitable for young children as well as adults.

John Stubbs – a gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games – will launch the initiative at the National Trust’ Speke Hall in Liverpool.

Archery GB head of development David Reader said the partnership will bring “archery to a wider audience”.

“We’re aiming to spread the word that archery is a fun and inclusive sport, which is very easy for beginners to pick up,” he added. “This also means that it is well-suited to delivering on a ‘have a go’ basis.”
