Arran looks to boost tourism
The Isle of Arran, off the Ayrshire coast, is the focus of a public/private tourism experiment which, if successful, could be rolled out to other Scottish destinations.
The Total Quality Destination Project has been set up by a group of islanders, with the backing of VisitScotland, to encourage visitors to the island and give value for money through offers and joint ventures.
A spokesperson for VisitScotland said: “We are helping to get the project off the ground, but it is very much being led by local industry and businesses. If the project is a success we will develop the formula and introduce it across Scotland.”
A project manger will be appointed shortly to lead a steering group which will aim to get all local businesses, not just those directly involved in the tourism industry, working together to promote Arran.
The project will be constantly reviewed and VisitScotland said it hoped to start seeing results within six to 12 months.
