Art Museum of Virginia relocation
The Art Museum of West Virginia is to be rehomed in a new building in central Roanoke in Virginia, US.
The 7,525sq m (81,000sq ft) facility – quadruple the size of the present museum at Center in the Square – will comprise exhibition galleries for the existing permanent collections of 19th and early 20th century American art, contemporary art and regional crafts.
It will also include an education centre with a library, studio and study centre; a multi-purpose auditorium; a café; book and gift shops and an outdoor gallery.
LA architect Randall Stout designed the new museum, which will open in autumn 2008.
