Artist to 'light up' historic Welsh landmark
A new art installation has been commissioned in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Jubilee Tower, located on Moel Famau, North Wales.
Coedpath-based artist Chris Oakley has been selected for the scheme, which will see a vertical beam of light projected from the tower, situated on the highest point of the Clwydian Range. The installation will be visible during the hours of darkness and is also set to involve illuminating the four sides of the Jubilee Tower with a video projection exploring the landmark's history.
Images for the video projection will be created as part of a number of community workshops due to take place in advance of the main event, which is scheduled for 24 October. Denbighshire County Council countryside officer David Shiel said: "The Jubilee Tower is an iconic feature of our beautiful landscape and we hope to give it a fitting tribute on the day, as well as providing a memorable experience for all who attend."
Flintshire County Council's head of countryside service, Tom Woodall, added: "Moel Famau and the Jubilee Tower represent one of the finest landscapes in the UK and residents of the area should be proud of this heritage."
