Arts fund launched for Scots
The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) has launched a new Lottery fund worth £8m to encourage people in Scotland to become more involved in the arts.
The council anticipates that the Inspire scheme will help promote public participation in quality arts programmes by providing a central resource to help financially support arts organisations. The fund will be made available to institutions exhibiting imaginative programmes, particularly those engaging groups shown to have less access and involvement in cultural activities.
According to recent research by the SAC, these groups include elderly people and those with disabilities, who are 13 per cent less likely to participate in such activities, as well as those living in deprived and rural areas.
Jim Tough, acting chief executive at SAC, said: “The Inspire fund is an exciting opportunity for organisations to unleash their creativity and develop projects which will inspire and encourage people to take part in the arts.
“The flexibility of the fund will allow us to support the new and innovative and we hope to encourage collaborative creative exchanges and new partnerships to ensure more, wider and better participation.”
