Arts/heritage sectors eye Olympic potential
The UK's cultural heritage is "crucial" to ensuring the UK's success as a tourism hub and economic power during the forthcoming months, according to leading industry figures.
Maximising the opportunities offered by the 2012 Games will be a key topic of debate at the Association for Cultural Enterprises' 13th Annual Convention and Exhibition next month.
English Heritage, the National Trust and the British Museum will be among 100 groups that will come together at the event to discuss how the sector can attract Olympic visitors.
John Stachiewicz of the National Trust said: "Heritage remains the most cited reason for people to visit Britain and currently renders a turnover of in excess of GBP1bn a year.
"The Olympics present the perfect opportunity to boost this figure significantly, which is why it is important that we have the necessary knowledge, skills and ideas to effectively engage with overseas visitors."
