Arts philanthrophy scheme consultation starts
An informal consultation into an £80m match funding scheme to boost arts philanthropy has been launched by the government and Arts Council England (ACE).
A series of round-table discussions with arts leaders will set out further details of the new approach, which was proposed in the Davey Report on Endowments in the Arts. The match funding scheme is one of a series of measures designed to help build the skills and potential of arts groups to boost philanthropic donations.
Other measures include a peer-to-peer mentoring system; training for fundraisers; and an increase in support to help finance fundraising posts. Meanwhile, a three-tier model for match funding will be discussed, with £1 for £1 match on offer to Tier One groups looking to raise "smaller funds".
Tier Two would provide £1 for every £2 raised to organisations looking for a larger yield and Tier Three will provide £1 for every £3 to groups making a step change in their approach. ACE chief executive Alan Davey said: "I want this scheme to work for arts organisations of all sizes, in all locations across the country, and with all levels of fundraising expertise.
"Most importantly, I want it to be a first step in a raft of practical measures that equip the arts sector to form lasting, and impactful relationships with philanthropists and private givers." Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt added: "The match funding scheme is designed to ensure that small regional bodies have as much chance of attracting funding as our larger institutions."
Up to £50m would be provided by ACE through National Lottery income, with £30m of government funding to be invested between 2011-12 and 2015-16.
