Assembly to probe Royal Parks' future plans
Future plans for the management of the capital's eight Royal Parks are to be examined by the London Assembly's Environment Committee at a meeting to be held on 12 October.
The Royal Parks chief executive will be questioned by members of the committee on issues such as biodiversity, use of the parks for sports and public access to open space.
Earlier this year, tourism minister John Penrose announced plans to give the London mayor and members of the community a greater say in the management of the Royal Parks.
Environment Committee chair Murad Qureshi said: "Millions of Londoners and visitors enjoy our royal parks every year. Not only do they provide facilities for play, sport, catering and entertainment, but they are home to many species of plants and animals.
"We are keen to explore the future plans for the royal parks, as it is important that generations to come will also be able to enjoy all they have to offer."
The Royal Parks are Bushy Park; Green Park; Greenwich Park; Hyde Park; Kensington Gardens; Regent's Park and Primrose Hill; Richmond Park; and St James's Park.
