At least five dead as Paris airport terminal roof collapse
At least five people were killed and three more injured yesterday morning at Charles de Gaulle airport when a section of the terminal’s concrete and glass roof fell onto a waiting area below.
The incident at France’s largest airport happened in Terminal 2E – a new addition to the airport opened in June 2003 – at around 7am.
Government officials have yet to establish the cause of the roof collapsing but have ruled out a terrorist attack.
Those injured included policemen who had been called in to inspect cracks that had appeared on one of the terminal’s walls. They had been trying to cordon off the area when the roof collapsed.
The Aeroports de Paris and French government representatives have stated that a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the roof collapse will begin immediately.
Both organisations have also sent their deepest condolences to the families of all involved in the incident. http://www.interieur.gouv.fr or www.adp.fr
