Australian-themed habitat to open in US aquarium
The National Aquarium in Baltimore in the US is set to open Animal Planet Australia: Wild Extremes on 16 December.
The immersive exhibit consists of seven areas themed to replicate a river gorge in the Northern Territory – including a 35ft (10.7m) waterfall and 60,000 gallons of freshwater – and is home to more than 1,800 native Australian animals and fish.
Nearly two million visitors are expected each year at the immersive exhibit, which is housed in a new 64,500sq ft (6,000sq m) building designed by Chermayeff, Sollogub & Poole architects and built by Aqua Venture. Details: www.aqua.org
