Avalon Leisure wins Mendip contract
Mendip District Council has awarded the leisure facilities contract for the management of Wells Leisure Centre, Strode Swimming Pool, Shepton Mallet Outdoor Pool and Frome Leisure Centre to Avalon Leisure in partnership with Serco.
To secure benefits for the community, the Council says it has placed the contract through an independent charitable trust, Western Community Leisure, who in turn has placed a contract with Avalon Leisure in partnership with Serco to carry out the management and operation of the centres.
Cllr Nick Cambrook, portfolio holder for health and facilities at Mendip District Council said the benefits of the partnership are particularly evident in the commitment to the integration of new advanced information technology systems and a comprehensive maintenance programme:
"Avalon Leisure in partnership with Serco have come up with an exciting proposition to operate and manage the Council’s major leisure facilities for the next ten years. Proposals include capital investment to enhance and expand leisure facilities as well as commitment to a wide variety of projects such as health promotion initiatives, sports development programmes and embracing the Council’s existing Mendip Leisure Passport Scheme."
Peter Gilpin, managing director of Avalon Leisure, said Avalon had enjoyed an excellent relationship with the Council for the past seven years. Details: +44 (0)1278 436910
