BSW creates athletics track for Barbarossa Hall
Berleburger Schaumstoffwerk has installed a new track as part of the renovation of Barbarossa Hall in Germany.
The Regupol AG athletics flooring by BSW will let track and field athletes use the newly renovated site in Kaiserslautern in Rheinland-Pfalz.
In addition to a new playing field, Barbarossa Hall has been fitted with a 165-metre running track, a 50-metre sprinting track, a long jump pit and seating for almost 1,000 spectators.
The hall, built in the mid-1970s has been completely renovated at a cost of €7.35 million.
"The hall is an architectural success – it is visually appealing, and meets the highest sporting and energy standards," said Roger Lewentz, interior minister for Rheinland-Pfalz.
Now that the renovations are complete, the hall has almost 4,500 square metres of usable space.
It is now open to athletes in handball, football, hockey, volleyball, badminton, basket-ball, track and field, including the long jump, and climbing as well as to seven schools in Kaiserslautern.
