Bali asks for help to rebuild tourism
Indonesia's minister of culture and tourism, Gede Ardika, is calling for foreign nations to help revive Bali's tourism industry following the bomb attacks which killed close to 200 people.
As Europeans, Americans and Australians cancel plans to visit Bali, Ardika asked foreign powers to support his efforts to rebuild the island's tourist industry, calling for a considered approach to travel bans and warnings.
China, South Korea and Japan have already pledged their support, while the World Tourism Organisation is in the middle of devising an action plan to help reduce the negative impact of the attacks on the island's tourism sector.
Indonesian minister, Jacob Nuwa Wea, has already warned that as many as 50 per cent of Balinese workers employed in the tourism sector could lose their jobs if the island fails to recover its image as a top tourism destination within a year.
