Barcelona forced to seek 'short-term' loan
FC Barcelona's new president, Sandro Rosell, has revealed that the club has been forced to seek a €150m (£125m) loan in a bid to ease "short-term" financial issues.
Rosell confirmed the La Liga club would be requesting "syndicated credit" after it was found to be in debt and facing cashflow issues. However, Rosell stressed that the club was not bankrupt. "The club isn't bankrupt. We'll have everything in place to impose a policy of austerity to be able to make savings in unnecessary areas and meet very important commitments such as paying the wages of our players, coaches and employees," he said.
Barcelona has confirmed it has sold defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy to Ukraine-based Shakhtar Donetsk in a move designed to help ease the financial situation, as well as for footballing reasons.
