Basingstoke Aquadrome opens
The £12m aqua and fitness centre, Basingstoke Aquadrome has opened and is expected to attract more than 65,000 visitors in its first month.
Built on the site of the former Basingstoke Lido, the facility has been fully funded by the Basingstoke and Deane Council and will be managed by Serco Local Government Services.
The site comprises a 130-stationed IsoSpa fitness studio with cardio vascular equipment from Life Fitness and a resistance and free weights area linked to a FitLinxx computerized programme. The system acts as a computerized instructor which remembers which excercises need to be done, when and for how long, so that members don't have to carry programme cards around the gym. There are also two workout studios offering a 50 classes a week and an adults health spa with sauna, steam room and spa pool.
Other facilities include a 25m competition ool at a constant depth of 2m, a 20m teaching pool with a retractable pool depth and the Lagoon with three flumes and a range of water features for children. Details: +44 (0)1256 472343
