This year’s conference will feature a quality programme of Australian and international speakers to present a stimulating programme that will inspire, educate and challenge delegates!

Speakers include:

Greg Shaw, chief executive officer of Macquarie Leisure Trust – owner and operator of some of Australia’s iconic leisure assets including Dreamworld, D’Albora Marinas, AMF Bowling and Kingpin, the new WhiteWater World as well as a growing portfolio of entertainment assets internationally totalling AUS$679m. Greg will explore the extraordinary success behind Macquarie Leisure Trust. Delegates will be inspired by the vision and commitment of the management team. Greg will also provide his view on the future of the industry and the increasing interest by institutional and private equity firms in leisure investments.

Marshall Vann, executive director/chief executive officer of MFS Living and Leisure, will also address delegates on day one of the conference programme.

MFS Living and Leisure Group, a publicly-listed managed investment scheme which investments include Australian Alpine Enterprise Holdings (premier ski resorts) and the Oceanis Group, the world’s largest owner and operator of aquariums, with facilities in Australia, Thailand, Korea and China.

Other industry leaders who will present inspiring business sessions on achieving international business success will include Robert Masterson, president of Ripley Entertainment Inc; Todd Coates managing director of Bridgeclimb Sydney; Franceen Gonzales, director of aquatics – Great Wolf Resorts USA and chair of the World Waterpark Association; Craig Lovett, executive director of Cleanevent International.

Day two will see a focus on industry breakout sessions highlighting the opportunities and challenges facing industry businesses in the Aquatics, Transportable Rides/Events, Indoor Play and Go Karting industries.

The sessions will review industry best practice procedures (including how to write a hazard and risk assessment), incident and media management and the future of ticketing technologies. For a full list of conference sessions, refer to the attached conference registration brochure.

Additionally, some of the world’s premier amusement, leisure and recreation manufacturers and distributors will exhibit at the 2007 AALARA Trade Exhibition.

The trade exhibition opens Monday 14 May 2007 at 9am through until Tuesday 15 May 5.30pm. You will also be able to network with exhibitors at the evening social functions.

On the final day of the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in behind the scene looks at the operations of the new BATWING Space Shot ride at Warner Bros. Movie World, breakfast with the birds at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Go Karting action at Kingston Park Raceway and the latest technology in water management at the Gold Coast’s newest theme park ‘White Water World’.

AALARA Inc’s (as a not-for-profit industry association) focus primarily sits with risk and safety management, education on statutory requirements and Australian Standards across all industry sectors. The association promotes best practices in safety and risk management to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for patrons. Education and training is a key instrument of achieving this management and the conference is an important educational opportunity for the industry.
