A 3,500sq m (37,600sq ft) Shangri-La health club designed to “inject energy into the heart of Beijing’s central business district” will open in the Chinese capital in June.

The forthcoming 450-bedroom Hotel Jen Beijing – a Shangri-La property – will operate the Trainyard Gym, keeping it open 24/7 in a bid to cement the facility as “the city’s go-to spot for fitness, recreation and nutrition.”

Designed by Stickman Design, the club’s look is inspired by street art and the area’s industrial buildings. Graffiti artwork is spread across two floors, while several floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of Beijing.

The building will feature 11 dedicated work-out zones, a Mixed Martial Arts area with a boxing ring; a 25m heated lap swimming pool with skylight; a sauna, steamroom and whirlpools; a juice bar; and several studio spaces – including a 30-bike spinning studio and a Pilates room.

There will be a strength training area fitted with an entire range of Life Fitness equipment; a cardio machine area with treadmills, cross trainers, bikes and wide selection of Life Fitness cardio machines; and a Synergy360 Suspension Training Platform. An air purification system has been designed specifically for the gym to counter the city’s notoriously poor air quality.

“There is no other fitness space like Trainyard Gym in Beijing and we are proud to be bringing this world-class health club experience to the city,” said Clifford Weiner, general manager of Hotel Jen Beijing. “It will be a place for local residents and foreign guests to connect, workout, push limits, and break boundaries together.”

Guests who sign up for the gold membership and hotel guests can enjoy more than 15 group classes including spinning, Pilates, aqua exercise, boot camps, Zumba and Les Mills training – all supervised and conducted by certified instructors.
