More people living in Brandon will now be able to enjoy local arts events thanks to the new Access 2 Arts transport service.

Access 2 Arts is a new door-to-door transport service to help those who sometimes find it difficult to get to events because of problems with transport or mobility. The new service will pick people up from their home, take them to Brandon Leisure Centre in time for a pre-event drink, and then take them home again afterwards, all for just £1 on top of the normal ticket price - only 50p each way.

The first events that the new service will be operating for are all part of East Anglian Folk Month in November.

The activities begin on Sunday 7 November with Teatime Tales at 5pm. Listeners can settle down to relax as The Ramsey Storytellers entertain them with their stories, and enjoy a traditional farmhouse tea. At 7:30pm the same day there will be a film showing Suffolk as it used to be with the Suffolk Digital Cinema Network. Tickets for the film are £3.

On Sunday 14 November there's a chance for people to use Fenland stories and imagery to inspire their own unique piece of Fenland art at 2pm. In the evening, anyone who is aged 8 and over and feeling brave can listen to 'Tales from the Fens' at 6.30pm with Cambridge Storytellers who will talk of enthralling scary and ancient local legends from the fens and beyond. Hot chocolate is provided.

On Sunday 21 November at 2pm things will get lively with an afternoon of traditional English folk music, songs and dance with Pluck 'n' Squeeze. People can sit and listen or get up and dance, and anyone who owns a percussion instrument can bring it along and join in!

The grand finale will be an evening with Hugh Lupton for 'The Mardling Acre' at 6.30pm with Hugh exploring folk-tales, legends, music and songs from East Anglia. Tickets are £6.50 each or £3.50 for concessions.

All other tickets are £6 for families or £2.50 for individuals.

The Doors Open events and Access 2 Arts service are run by West Suffolk Arts Centre and supported by Anglia Community Leisure and Forest Heath District Council. Access 2 Arts is funded by a Suffolk County Council grant.

Access 2 Arts must be booked at least 24 hours prior to the event. For more information please contact Brandon leisure centre on 01842 813748.
