'Boat race' pub sold
Scottish and Newcastle Pub Enterprises has sold the Star and Garter pub in Putney, London, UK for £3.4m (US$5.5m, 3.8m euro) at auction through Jones Lang LaSalle.
The pub, just to the west of Putney Bridge, is best known for having the start line of the annual Oxford and Cambridge Universities Boat Race on the River Thames immediately outside. Occupying around 18,270sq ft (1697sq m), it features bars on both the ground and lower ground floors, a ballroom on the first floor and residential space including ten bedrooms on the second floor, plus three further floors and a roof terrace, the latter with views over the river.
Tenancy of the pub - which expires in 2026 - is currently let to Glendola Leisure, a privately-owned pub, club and restaurant company with operations throughout the UK. The identity of the purchaser has so far not been revealed.
