Bond Museum opens in Cumbria
A museum themed around the fictional secret agent James Bond has opened in a former supermarket in Keswick, Cumbria.
The Bond Museum showcases a collection of memorabilia, including a convertible Triumph Stag driven by Sean Connery in the film Diamonds Are Forever and the Lotus Esprit Turbo and the underwater submarine from The Spy Who Loves Me, as well as the Russian T55 battle tank and Cagiva motorbike used in GoldenEye and the Colibri gun shot in The Man with the Golden Gun.
Owner Peter Nelson said: “This museum is dedicated to the fans of 007 who will want to see this collection in its entirety.”
The museum’s opening at the weekend marked the 100th birthday anniversary of the late Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli, who produced the original Bond films based on the books of Ian Fleming.
Nelson also owns the nearby Cars of the Stars Motor Museum.
The James Bond character was created by author Ian Fleming in 1953, who included him in twelve novels and two short story collections. Bond has since become one of the most successful film franchises in history, so far creating more than £3.2bn in box office takings from 22 films.
