Hotel operator Bonnington Group has submitted a planning and listed building consent application to develop a five-star hotel at the former Gillette Company headquarters in Isleworth.

Although plans for the site, known as Gillette Corner, are still being finalised, a spokesperson for Bonnington said the property would “offer everything you would expect from a five-star hotel”, including bars, restaurants and a 20,000sq ft (2,000sq m) health club with a swimming pool and potentially a spa area.

The 505-bed hotel, to be called Bonnington@Gillette Corner, will be part of a larger business-led mixed-use scheme also comprising 506,000sq ft (47,000sq m) of office space.

Gillette took the decision to close the Isleworth facility in 2003 and has since been scaling down operations. Production activity ceased in April this year and the company will completely vacate the site in December, allowing Bonnington to take possession in early 2007.

The new development, which is still being costed, is expected to open in mid-2008.

Alan Bostock of the Bonnington Group said: “We see the Gillette Corner site as a fantastic opportunity to deliver a truly landmark development which will totally transform and regenerate the site following Gillette’s relocation.

“Our overall vision is to create a fully-integrated world-class ‘business campus’, containing flexible business floorspace contained within a high quality landscaped environment and fully serviced by a number of ancillary uses. We plan to renovate the impressive Gillette Building and convert it into a signature hotel with conferencing and business facilities designed principally to cater for the business tourism market.”

The scheme has been masterplanned by HOK with Rolfe Judd Planning and Motion Transport Consultants. Details: www.bonnington.com
