Boutique Marrakech spa fuses traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with modern European design
Boutique Moroccan hotel Riad Farnatchi is opening a spa in February to complement its trio of lovingly converted private houses in the heart of Marrakech’s bustling medina.
The 160sq m (1,722sq ft) Farnatchi Spa will include a 100sq m (1,076sq ft) spa terrace, and will be fully air-conditioned with underfloor heating in the winter.
The reception area will feature a glazed roof and traditional hand-carved white plasterwork with hand-woven Kelim, specially commissioned for the space. The spa is designed with a luxurious yet contemporary feel, with monochrome tiled flooring, elegant white walls, vaulted ceilings with skylights, and traditional details, such as silver lanterns.
The spa will include four treatment rooms with showers along with a white marble hammam, and a roof garden will serve spa lunches.
Ila products, including many with Argan oil, will be the main product house, along with Nectorome, a local partner with gardens outside Marrakech, where the ingredients for their aromatherapy products are grown.
Owned by hoteliers Jonathan and James Wix, the Riad Farnatchi includes nine suites that fuse traditional Moroccan style with modern European design. Lavish wood carvings, Islamic paintings and colourful Berber rugs play against modern luxury furnishings.
The Riad Farmatchi is also opening a restaurant with a roof terrace in February, La Trou au Mur.
