Brentford Football Club (BFC) has moved forward with plans for the development of a new community stadium in west London after it acquired land from Barratt Homes.
The 7.6-acre (3.1-hectare) site was first purchased by the development company more than four years ago and is working with the League One club on the stadium scheme.
BFC is proposing to build a 15,000-capacity venue on the land, while having the option for expanding to 20,000 seats at a later stage. The project also includes some residential units.
The deal was completed for an undisclosed sum and funded by long-term supporter of the club, Matthew Benham, who has also now secured 96 per cent ownership of BFC.
Club chair Greg Dyke said: "This is brilliant news for the club and it's now full steam ahead for a new stadium.
"We will be submitting plans for the new development to Hounslow Council within the next year and our ambition is to move into the new stadium in time for the 2016/17 season."
