Brentford FC plans move to new stadium
Brentford Football Club (BFC) is to submit a planning application for a new 15,000-20,000-seat stadium on Lionel Road South, Brentford.
The new development would be located two miles away from Griffin Park, which has been the clubs home since 1904.
Last June the club bought a 7.6-acre site in Lionel Road and is now assessing options to develop a viable scheme that can deliver a completed stadium by July 2016.
The move is aligned with the aspirations of Brentford's new owner, Matthew Benham, and the board to achieve promotion to the Football League Championship within the next 3 years.
Greg Dyke, club chair, said: "We are inspired by the experience of Brighton and Hove Albion, who achieved promotion and a new stadium at the same time. It's our ambition to achieve both by 2016.
"A new stadium will give Brentford an ideal opportunity to attract the next generation of West Londoners to a family friendly, community based club."
Brentford's existing ground at Griffin Park will be used for family housing once the new stadium is completed.
