Brighton pier rebuild to go ahead
The restoration of Brighton's West Pier is to proceed as proposed despite the fire at the end of March.
Severe storm damage during the winter also damaged the 19th century pier, which has been closed since 1975.
In February this year approval was given by Brighton council to a £30m plan by property developers St Modwen in conjunction with the West Pier Trust, to rebuild the structure.
A spokesperson for St Modwen's director, Nick Doyle, has confirmed that the project will go ahead as planned and it is reported that work should start early in 2004. Details: www.leisureopportunities.co.uk and type 'Brighton' in the news search engine
