British Institute of Innkeeping launches new personal licence certificate
The British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) has launched a new professional qualification in response to the new UK licensing regime.
Under the new regulations, the premises licence has been separated from the licensee and the new personal licence introduced, which all retailers of alcohol will be required to hold.
As a result, the BII’s awarding body (BIIAB) has created the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH) which combines the new legislation with other issues relating to the responsible sale of alcohol.
Also as a result of the new regulations, the BII has opened up its membership to all licensed retailers and key suppliers within the pub, hotel, restaurant and off-licence sectors.
“Not only must operators hold the same personal licence, they will need to demonstrate similar skills and working practices as there is a great national emphasis on meeting high standards of social responsibility,” said John McNamara, BII chief executive.
“Our move to support all alcohol retailers is a necessary stage of evolution for us and the industry.”
