British Motor Museum's £5m revamp offers new world class experience

The former Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire has reopened to the public following a £5m (US$7.2m, €6.4m) revamp, with a new focus on interactivity and a new name – the British Motor Museum (BMM).

With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), BMM has spent £4m (US$5.8, €5.2m) on its Collections Centre, with a further £1.1m (US$1.6m, €1.4m) investment from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT).

The reimagined museum now welcomes visitors with a new introductory gallery, helping to improve flow. The reimagined space by Easy Tiger Creative now includes new categorised areas such as royal cars'>cars, motorsport, and vehicles from film and television.

The museum allows an up-close-and-personal look at 250 cars, which is more interactive and immersive, with newly-installed touch screens providing new interpretations of the exhibits, telling the cars’ stories in different ways.

The museum and Collections Centre trace the history of the car industry, including manufacturers in a region famous for being an automotive hub in the UK. The centre's cars are from the reserve collections of the BMIHT and the Jaguar Heritage Trust.

"The British Motor Museum is instrumental in enabling visitors to learn more about the past, present and future of the British motor industry, its technology and its people," said Conservative MP for South Staffordshire, Gavin Williamson, who unveiled the new look museum at a preview on 12 February.

"With the exciting improvements and enhancements made, the museum can now be counted as being amongst the best motor museums in the world".
