British Museum exhibits Bengal collection
The British Museum in London is presenting a series of exhibitions on Bengal until January.
The collection includes objects from modern West Bengal (India) and Bangladesh which have never previously been displayed.
The exhibition also includes an examination of the tradition of story telling in the region – called the Myths of Bengal – as well as a huge image of the goddess Durga in the Great Court and paintings by Bengali polymath and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941).
In addition, the museum is running a public programme of lectures, music and story telling performances and events for school children as well as films based on Tagore’s narratives. Details: www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk
