British squash player comes up with cheeky match attire

The Women's Squash Players' Association (WISPA) took a dim view of Vicky Botwright's attempt to bring a bit of glamour to the British Open Championship in Birmingham this month. Botwright, 23, who is on the lottery-funded World Class Performance Programme and is currently the world number 18, wanted to wear a thong for her second round match. Some sports clothing can be restrictive in the hot and demanding confines of a squash court, she claimed. WISPA's director, Andrew Shelley, was unimpressed by her ideas: There is no rule about thongs, but it was thought by the board to be not suitable apparel for the British Open.
