Bromley celebrates victory
On Monday 6th September Bromley's London Youth Games teams celebrated their success in winning the 2010 competition at the Champions Reception at the Great Hall, Bromley.
VIP guests included Charlton footballer Lee Martin and the Mayor of Bromley Councillor George Taylor. Presenting the trophy to the Mayor was the Youth Games Chairman Antony Kendall and Bromley have won Europe's largest youth sporting event 3 out of the past 4 years and 6 times in total!
The finals weekend on 3rd and 4th July proved to be one of the tightest yet with only 6 points separating Bromley from second place Croydon. Bromley teams are led by volunteer team managers who already coach in Partner clubs, Leisure Centres, Schools and Outreach projects.
Councillor Ernest Noad, Executive Member for Children and Young People said, "Bromley's young people never cease to inspire us with their achievements such as winning this year's Youth Games. As London is a world class city, it's logical to suggest that Bromley's young people are the very best in the world and we're all very proud of them."
Dennis Barkway, Chairman of Bromley Mytime said, "This year Bromley excelled and achieved 6 golds, 2 silvers and 4 bronze. Bromley entered 27 sports across 36 competitions with 6 new teams. The triumph is a reflection of Team Managers commitment to the Games, their hard work, enthusiasm and loyalty along with all the competitors and any other volunteers that were involved with each team. Thanks also to the support of Bromley Council and the Glades Shopping Centre as this success could not have been achieved without them."
