Hong Kong has unveiled the city’s first permanent memorial to martial arts expert and actor Bruce Lee.

The two-metre tall bronze statue was erected on the city’s Avenue of Stars and cost HK$800,000 (£60,000, US$106,000, 88,300 euro).

It was revealed in late November as part of the city’s celebrations of what would have been Lee’s 65th birthday.

The statue was acquired and paid for largely by fan organisation The Bruce Lee Club.

Lee – who died 32 years ago – became a star due to Kung-Fu films such as Enter The Dragon. He was also recently named Star of the Century at the Hong Kong Film Awards Association.

The south Bosnian town of Mostar has also unveiled a life-size statue of the Kung-Fu legend in Mostar’s central park.

The Bosnian statue is positioned facing north to avoid the impression he is poised to fight either with Muslims in east Mostar or Croats in the west, and is intended to pay homage to Lee being a childhood hero to all of Bosnia’s divided ethnic groups. Details: www.hktb.com
