Budget gym hits 1,000 member mark
Gym London at the Colombo Centre - a unique partnership between not-for-profit social enterprises - has just signed up its 1000th member.
The centre, which benefited from a £0.6m investment from Greenwich Leisure (GLL) is run by the Jubilee Hall Trust and reopened at the end of January offering a 90-station fitness gym with membership from just £19.95 per month.
The affordable price has meant that membership has rocketed to over 1,000 in just three months.
Members in the MOSAIC 'K' grouping (typically living in high-rise social housing and one of the least affluent) has increased at a faster rate than most of the other groupings, showing real social inclusion.
In the latest members survey, the majority of members say that they haven't previously been using another gym, thus contributing to the areas 0 - 1 health targets.
The increased income from the new gym will enable the Colombo Centre to develop and increase the community programmes, which include a range of free and discounted activities for seniors and young people.
