Builders scrap over Millennium Dome
The two main building companies that constructed the Millennium Dome are now in competition over the contract to turn the dome into a £100m entertainment and sports centre.
The companies – Laing O-Rourke and Sir Robert McAlpine – worked together in 1997 to build the Dome but are now battling against one another and another bidder – Australian company Multiplex – for the deal from the site developers Anschutz Entertainment Group Europe.
The outcome of the deal should be know before the end of 2003 but is also dependent on the proposals getting planning consent from Greenwich borough council.
Pending planning permission, the eventual redevelopment of the Dome site is part of Sir Terry Farrell’s £4m Greenwich area regeneration. www.greenwich.gov.uk
