Luxury hotel brand Bulgari will come to Moscow in 2019, with a hotel set in the former residence of a noble family that was also later home to musicians from the famed Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky.

Designed by Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners – which is also working on the Bulgari Dubai – in collaboration with Russian architectural bureau Atrium, the Bulgari Hotel in Moscow is planned to offer a mix of traditional and contemporary themes. The building is part of a full block of development that will also include luxury residences and townhouses.

“The reconstruction of a whole block in Moscow’s historic centre is an operation of great cultural and economic value to the city,” said Citterio. “The project will consist of the conservative restoration, the harmonisation of variously dated facades, the renovation of the internal buildings and the valorisation of the splendid internal courtyard.”

The renovated building will “juxtapose new and conventional architecture” the company said, and the internal building will be totally renovated to reflect “the design and style of the surrounding area.” An internal courtyard inspired by the traditional patios of the Italian Renaissance Palaces will offer outdoor living space.

Located just 300 metres from the city’s famous landmarks of Red Square and the historic Kremlin, the hotel will be adjacent to the Moscow State Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky. It will include 65 bedrooms and suites, including a 300sq m (3,229sq ft) Bulgari Suite with a 600sq m (6,458sq ft) rooftop terrace with views of Moscow’s rooftops and the Kremlin.

A 1,600sq m (17,222sq ft) spa with a 25m (82ft) swimming pool will be included in the hotel, as well as a signature Bulgari restaurant and bar.

The project is in partnership with Russian investor Alexey Bogachev, with Moscow-based real estate development company Storm Properties acting as developer on the project.

Expected to open in 2019, the hotel will be the world’s seventh Bulgari; currently the brand operates locations in Milan, Bali and London, with Shanghai, Beijing and Dubai hotels anticipated to open in 2017.
