Busan Ferris wheel kills five
Five people from the same family were killed at World Carnival amusement park in Busan, South Korea, last week, when two cars on a giant Ferris wheel collided.
Five of the passengers fell 65ft to the ground, but two further members of the family clung to handholds on the car and survived.
A similar ride operated by Sea World on Australia’s Gold Coast was immediately closed by the park’s management, pending a safety check by the manufacturer of both rides, Ronald Bussink Co.
The park’s chief operating officer, Steve Peet, reportedly said that some ‘minor modifications and adjustments’ were made to The Eye and that the ride had passed all routine safety inspections and been reopened.
