Bute Park Education Centre officially opens
Cardiff Council has officially opened the new Bute Park Education Centre, which is part of a wider £5.6m restoration project currently being undertaken at the park.
The new facility will provide a new hub for all educational activities taking part in Bute Park and will enable people to gain an insight into the council's horticultural operations.
A classroom, an archive room and interpretation panels form part of the building, while large windows to the rear of the centre will allow visitors to view the working part of the nursery.
Cardiff Council leader Rodney Berman said: "The facility will be an important learning resource, allowing users to engage with a working nursery in the heart of the city.
"The Bute Park restoration project aims to protect and enhance one of Cardiff's most cherished and popular attractions and the new Education Centre will be a real asset to this beautiful, historic landmark."
Meanwhile, work has started on the refurbishment of Bute Park's West Lodge in the latest phase of the restoration project, which received £1.3m from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
ISG Pearce are carrying out the work on behalf of the council, with the revamped lodge set to comprise a traditional tea room, a gift shop and improved landscaped areas.
