Butlins breaches National Minimum Wage law
Butlins and associated companies Haven Holidays and British Holiday were reportedly found guilty of breaching the National Minimum Wage law earlier this month.
The Employment Appeals tribunal apparently ordered the holiday operator to refund the £3 weekly charge automatically deducted from the wages of around 20,000 live-in employees for electricity and gas charges.
Butlins has refused to comment on the likely cost of the payout or whether the group will appeal until a written judgment is received.
Britain’s General Union (GMB) said that the payout will cost around £1m. Details: www.gmb.org.uk
