CCW starts Clwydian Range consultation
Members of the public are now being invited to comment on plans to extend the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in mid Wales.
The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is co-ordinating the 12-week public consultation in partnership with Denbighshire County Council and Wrexham County Borough Council. Under the proposals, the AONB will be extended to cover southern parts of the Clwydian Range, as well as the Vale of Llangollen and parts of the Dee Valley.
According to the CCW, the landscapes of Esclusham, Ruabon and Llantysilio Mountains are of 'equally worthy of protection' under the AONB status. If local support is forthcoming for the proposal, the legal process to extend the Clwydian Range designation - by the Welsh Assembly Government and the CCW - is likely to commence in early 2011.
CCW head of environment policy Keith Davies said: "The proposed extended area has long been recognised as a landscape of outstanding quality, exceptional in terms of natural beauty. "As an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we hope this beautiful landscape and its ecosystem services can be managed in a sustainable way so that it remains special for the wellbeing of future generations."
