CLAD weekly roundup: underwater villas, rock star museums and a beer-themed hotel
Museum news featured heavily on our site this week, with exciting projects around the world reaching various significant milestones.
Today (29 April), MVRDV’s flamboyant golden Denmark Museum of Rock Music opened in the Danish city Roskilde and international architecture studio Snøhetta released new images of their 10-storey addition to the SFMOMA in San Francisco.
Earlier this week, David Chipperfield’s Nobel Center and museum received the green light from Stockholm City Council, the V&A in London updated the world on the progress of its 16-year renovation plan and a scheme emerged to transform the Paisley Park home and recording complex of Prince into a museum dedicated to the musician’s career.
In the big wide world of hospitality, architect Vo Trong Nghia unveiled a curving bamboo restaurant in Vietnam; CLAD was given an exclusive first look at the inaugural underwater Floating Seahorse holiday villa; BrewDog expanded on its plans for a beer-themed Scottish hotel; RPW Design revealed images of their Fairmont St Andrews resort revamp; and hotel group Alila announced it will open a hotel, spa and museum next year on the island of Bintan.
In sport, we learnt about Fulham FC’s collaboration with Thomas Heatherwick for a stadium redesign and NFL franchise the ,San Diego Chargers, revealed their vision for a new downtown home by MANICA Architecture.
