This week was a big one for leisure architects, designers and developers in the exciting world of museum design.

In Hungary, local architects Napur overcame strong competition to win the contract for the city’s Museum of Ethnography building; new video footage emerged of David Adjaye’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C; the Heneghan Peng-designed Palestine Museum opened without any exhibits; and French architects Studio KO teased their design for a Yves Saint Laurent museum in Marrakech.

Meanwhile another museum, London’s V&A, opened a garden pavilion fabricated by robots, created by the biomimicry-loving team who’ve also created a pavilion inspired by sea urchins.

Elsewhere in London this week Italian brewery Peroni transformed a café and restaurant into an Italian-themed event space designed by Margherita Missoni, the InterContinental London hotel opened its 1,000sq m (10,764sq ft) spa; and Hollywood legend Robert De Niro unveiled his plans to build a boutique hotel in Covent Garden.

In CLAD’s competition coverage this week, nine studios were shortlisted to design a sustainable green football stadium for Forest Green Rovers and the City of Ryde in Australia revealed the designs it’s considering for a new cultural gateway project.

Further up the Australian coast, hospitality operator The Star Entertainment Group has designed a masterplan for a multi-billion dollar integrated resort to enhance its leisure offerings for tourists.

In other news this week, CLAD featured David Rockwell’s New York street-art filled restaurant VANDAL; a renovation of famous Austrian spa Lanserhof Lans by Christph Ingenhoven; and a gravity-defying public staircase and observation point in Belgium.
